Fabric crafted from Nettle softens beautifully with wear, does not itch or scratch and is gentle against the skin with a lovely drape.

The fibres of the nettle are hollow which gives nettle fabric natural insulating properties - keeping you lovely and warm in winter and cool in summer.
A highly sustainable and eco friendly crop, Nettle is naturally resistant to pests and disease and is pesticide and fertiliser free. It is a much greener fibre than many other plant-based alternatives including cotton.

I purchased nettle yarns and hemp yarn recently. Previously ordered various colored raffia yarns. I am very happy with these unique yarns. I will be using them in experimental tapestry work where I limit myself to these yarns as well as paper yarns, etc.

I'm knitting a CLOAK that is an artwork and not intended to have a wearing function. It will represent a feeling while encountering deep snow and having to find one's way through it. Having used the nettle yarn for a former project, I knew the natural nettle was the perfect fit. As I knit ten skeins for the front and back and two for each sleeve, each skein is shows a different shade of 'natural' and resembles snow so beautifully as it falls in layers in different shades of natural white. It has body and yet falls in a heap at my feet. I simply love the notion of nettle fibre prepared from plant material, spun and made useful for such tasks as mine. The first place I look for fibre inspiration is ORA FABULOUS FIBRES. Thank you for your searches Debbie, you are a finder!
